As much trace evidence are recognised today at the morphological surface, the entire area of the ancient quarry from Măgura Călanului hill is administrated by the city of Călan, in Hunedoara county, including also the Sântămăria de Piatră and Valea Sângeorgiului villages.

The Măgura Călanului hill (45°45’47.25″N, 23° 3’3.69″E) can be accessed from several directions:

  • from the European road, E79 (DN66) from Simeria – to Hațeg, at a point near Călanul Mic placement, it takes the DC51 road to Sântămăria de Piatră village and further the paved path to the Sântămăria de Piatră television relay. Near to the final of it, it follows the forest roads on the left or the path from the edge of the hill to the area of ​​the quarry fronts;
  • at the exit from Călan (the New City part) towards Strei river it follows the local road DC55 to Strei-Săcel village, then the utilitarian roads or pathway(s) to Șesul Gorganului, located at the southwestern part of Măgura hill (recommended only for off-road cars, mountain biking, trekking, classic tourism);
  • at the exit from Călan (the New City part) to Mărtinești, it follows the county road DJ668 after passing through Valea Sângeorgiului, and from here, going through utilitarian roads to the base of Măgura hill. Also, it can be followed DJ668B (which is partially arranged) and then are several roads towards Măgura village; near the edge of the hill or through the forest on the northern slope, animal trails or forest roads conduct the tourist to the perimeter of the quarry (it is not recommended during rainy periods);
  • from E68 (DN7) Orăștie-Simeria, county road DJ668 can be followed passing through the villages of Turmaș – Mărtinești – Jeledinți and towards Măgura. From here, in order to reach the perimeter of the quarry, forest roads and animal paths can be taken near the hillside or through the forest on the northern slope (it is not recommended during rainy period);
  • from the road E79 (DN66) Simeria-Hațeg, from Băcia locality, it follows the local road DC50 to Petreni village and then utilitarian roads towards Pădureni and to the northern slope of the hill; due to the layout of the valleys and edges, it requires training and good knowledge of the place and it`s variants.
